The History Behind the Name: Baltimore's 6 "Park Pools" remained segregated until 1956 and only desegregated after an African American teen drowned in a local river and the lengthy court battle that ensued after. But there was one safe place that Blacks in Baltimore could go to enjoy summer water activities and that was Park Pool #2 at Druid Hill Park, known as the Memorial Pool.
